Picture Sizes for Inclusion in Web.

Max Height = 480 Pixels

Max Width = 640 Pixels

For best appearance, one side should be at it's maximum size, but

the other side must not exceed it's maximum size.

AMENDED again on 9th April 2008

This shows what you need to do in Photoshop.

Similar results can be obtained in other Graphics Programs.

It is Important that you actually do follow this routine. The pictures will then

arrive at me just exactly correct and will be COPIED into the Web.

Otherwise I will have to make alterations and I will then need to  SAVE  them,

and because they are already compressed their quality will be reduced,

sometimes severely reduced.

1.  In Photoshop -  Ensure ensure that "Edit" > "Colour Settings" are correct for Web use, by setting the Working Space Profile to sRGB.

2. Then Open Picture, and if necessary  "Convert to sRGB"

If an Adobe RGB picture is viewed on the Web, its colours will seem very dull.

3.  Make another version of the picture, by using "Save as Copy" and selecting Jpeg as the File Type.

This "save as copy" will "Tag" the sRGB profile to it.

You can now close your original, and provided you do not "Save", it will retain its original Profile.

Ensure you are now working on the Jpeg COPY of your Picture, so that you don't make the following changes to your Own Saved version of the Picture.

4. Go to "Image" > "Image Size"  -  See below.

5. Ensure both "Constrain Proportions" and "Resample Image" boxes at Bottom are Ticked.

6. The resolution of the image, and the size in inches are of no importance.  It is only the number of Pixels which matter.

7. In "Pixel Dimensions" at Top, change

EITHER          Width to 640 Pixels (for a Landscape)

OR          Height  to 480 Pixels (for Portrait)

Ensure neither of these figures are exceeded.

8 Click "Ok". The box will vanish and your picture will change size.

9 Go to "File"  >  "Save for Web".     The Screen below will appear.

  10. At  "1" click on little triangle and select "Jpeg".

11. At  "2"  Ensure The "Progressive" Box is ticked.

12. At  "3"  Ensure the "ICC Profile" Box is ticked.

13. At  "4" Check that the size of the image is between 50K and 100K

14. If the size needs changing, click on the drop down arrow at  "5" and adjust the "Quality" Slider (which will appear) to a higher or lower position.

Allow a few moments for the figure  (at "4" ) to change after the slider has stopped.

15. When all this is done and has been checked Click on "Save" and the

"Save Optimised As"  Screen will appear.   See below.

16.  At "1" is the "Save In" Box.   Navigate to where you want to save this Picture File.

It is NOT a good idea to keep Web, or Email, Sized Images in the same Folders you use for your Full Size Images.

17.  At "2" give it its Website File Title.

3 small case initials for yourself & the Picture Name in CAPITALS. eg

mee TITLE        or         mee-TITLE          or      mee_TITLE

This is VERY IMPORTANT because my program will use this File Title to create

       Page Titles.

18. When this has been done & checked click Save.  Both screens will close and you will be back to your copy picture in Photoshop.

19. Close the Copy Picture in Photoshop, but do NOT  "Save Image" when prompted by Photoshop or you may convert it to the small size.

20. Do not reopen the "Saved for Web" picture to make any alterations, or the Quality will be ruined. Make any alterations to the full size Copy Picture and then Reduce its Size and "Save For Web" again.

21. You may now send this picture to me by Email or copy it onto a  CD, DVD,  or even a  USB Flash (Pen) Drive.

You will, of course, ensure that you are actually sending the SMALL WEB version, with its new title  (as in "17" above),  and not a  FULL SIZE  version.

The Title is important because the Program will make use of it

       when creating Pages and Files.

There are over 600 Files in the Web, and I could easily LOSE yours or get the

SPELLING wrong, if the Title is not Correct.
